I don't think you would do this, but DON'T put hair dye on the doll's hair! I bought a white bodied Samantha on ebay that I restored recently, and when we cleaned her up, we learned someone had tried to dye her hair darker brown. (The white bodied Samanthas have lighter hair than the newer dolls.) We took off her wig, shampooed it and soaked it clean. The dye they had put on her hair had gotten in places on her body and stained it, but with much work, my daughter and I were able to get most of it off. She was a real mess, but now is truly beautiful, and we would never part with her. I wish we would have taken pictures of the process--our mistake.
My opinion is that we should enjoy the differences between each of these dolls, as they are so beautiful, and certainly they do not all look alike, nor would we want them to! But cleaning their hair is not hard, and you would probably see a huge difference after you were finished.
